How it's calculated
- Commission = gross amount × commission rate
- Other fees = gross amount × fee rate (e.g. virtual card or payment processing fees)
- Net revenue = gross amount − commission − other fees
- Net per night = net revenue ÷ nights
Example
A 3-night booking worth $1,200 with 18% commission and a 1.5% payment fee: commission $216, other fees $18, net revenue $966, net per night $322. Of the $400 the guest pays per night, you keep $322.
Some channels charge commission on the amount including taxes, others on the amount excluding taxes. Enter the gross amount on the basis your contract uses. This page is not tax advice.
Compare with a direct booking
When the same room is sold direct (phone, WhatsApp, your website) there is no commission. If you keep 80.5%, as in the example, you could offer up to 19.5% off on a direct booking and still not earn less than from the OTA sale. Remember direct sales have their own costs (payment processing, advertising).

How do you calculate OTA commission?
Multiply the booking amount by the rate in your contract: $1,200 × 18% = $216. For net revenue, subtract that and any payment fees from the gross amount.
Is commission charged on the amount including taxes?
It depends on the channel and country. Your contract and the channel's monthly invoice state which amount is used; enter that amount in the calculator.
What is net ADR?
The average revenue left per room night sold after commission and fees. When comparing channels, net ADR gives a truer picture than gross ADR.
